BNPR1 was turned in, but I realized I never mentioned it. I wound up spending an inordinate amount of time on the introduction which winds up, more or less, saying “paranormal romance” is no longer “Romance-in-the-genre-sense-as-in-Harlequin, etc.” Sure, some paranormal is Romance, but some of it isn’t. And readers of pr are no longer coming from only the ranks of Romance readers.

Romance Writers of America member Janet Butler, published in the July 2006 issue of the Romance Writers Report, asks that the RWA redefine the romance genre to include only love stories between one man and one woman.

Harlequin took on fantasy with Luna and their “dark romance” line, Nocturne, debuts in October…now Jo Fletcher will helm a new “SF, fantasy & supernatural romance” line: Gollancz Romancz.

I just finished the introduction for Best New Parnormal Romance. It’s either somewhat brilliant or complete hooey. I do mention in it how a title like Best New SF, Fantasy & Supernatural Romance doesn’t quite cut it, but then “paranormal” may not be as generally used in the UK?
