Submit Now!
You’d think with all this snow (at least in some parts of this country) that writers and agents would have nothing better to do than submit to us editors. Maybe everyone is watching the Olympics?
Hey, I’d rather be watching the Olympics, too. But (among a bunch of other chores) I’m looking (and re-looking and often deciding) at submissions *right now*. So, here’s a mission for those of you perspicacious enough to read this blog:
- Read or re-read the Submission Guidelines
- Ask yourself: “Do I have a completed or near-manuscript that would work for Pocket Juno?”
- If the answer to #2 is “yes” then (for a limited time) skip the part in the guidelines about sending a synopsis and three sample chapters. Send me a short synopsis in your email and the full manuscript attached.
- If the answer to #2 is “No, but I have a friend who could answer “yes”, then clue them in.
- Make sure you (or your friend) otherwise, adhere to #1 including the proper eddress to email.
- Act now! This is a limited time offer!
Special Bonus Hint #1: I wouldn’t mind seeing some steampunkish novels, but they still would have to fit within the context of what Pocket Juno publishes. Still, you might take a chance…

Snow? I live in Vermont and we got a foot of snow where I am and the next day, plus today, it poured buckets and buckets…then sleeted…then poured…Is it Spring yet?

It’s lovely and sunny here. Ooops feeling dark arrows coming my way.

Snow-wise: We have no problems with snow in Akron. Life goes on. It’s very pretty. My cats aren’t so happy, but then who can really please cats all the time?
But, yeah, this year we have had a lot. I’m more concerned about it melting and spring showers than what we have now.
I’m now past the years of driving kids to school and other activities (and then entering the era of worrying about them when they drive). I work from home and and glad I don’t have to deal with cleaning off the car, etc. This year I’m even blessed with a son in residence to clear paths and driveways and who is more than happy to run errands.
So, I’m not complaining.

I have a ‘near-completed’ manuscript (bits to add here and there, a few chapters to finish off, but completely unedited at this point), first draft, that would fit the guidelines of Pocket Juno. Should I still submit?
Snow wise - finally it’s beginning to clear over here in the UK. We’ve had nothing but snow since November and that is highly unusual for us. Our country can’t cope :p

This is so exciting! I’m halfway through the final polish on an urban fantasy with a little steampunk spice in a modern setting.
What is the deadline to this limited time offer? Would it be better to send the polished portion as a partial instead?
Thanks so much!

If I had anything remotely complete enough to send in, I would. Dang. I might be able to clue some people in though, we’ll see.
(A nit, in point #5, did you mean “address”?)

No, “eddress” has, for at least 15 year, been commonly used to mean “email address”.

Oh this is great. While I am thrilled that I fit the guidelines, my manuscript won’t be ready for another few months. Still, posts like these can’t help but get me excited, so I will definitely keep Juno in mind in the future.
In the meantime, I’ll check if anyone I know has a manuscript ready. Thanks! I think this is a great opportunity for people.

When does this limited time offer end?

I’d like to ask a question, in order to myself, and you, most likely, some time.
I have a near-complete novel, ‘Runt’ which is a YA urban fantasy involving goblins. It features a strong female character (a vampire who is queen of the goblins) who, although not the principal character for much of the story, is crucial to the plot. I’m guessing that this isn’t something you’d be interested in, but is it worth me submitting the first three chapters to you anyway?
Thanks in advance,
Jez Thorpe
Oh - and there’s no snow in Cambridge…

Sorry, that should say ’save myself, and you…’
My cat attacked me while I was typing, then ate my excuse. Honest.
